DC Collectibles announced new statues for both Batman and Superman at this summer's San Diego Comic-Con. Based on the characters featured in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, though, one superhero got left out: there was no mention of a Wonder Woman statue.
However, Wonder Woman wasn't really left out in the cold: on Thursday, DC Collectibles announced a new statue based on the superheroine as portrayed by actress Gal Gadot, featuring a more colorful version of the costume than what fans have seen in photos released by DC.
The new statue stands at 13 inches tall and wears Wonder Woman's typical red, blue and gold: gone are the washed-out colors from the photo DC originally released of Gadot's costume in the film.
The resin statue is the work of artist James Marsano, who captured all the details from Gadot's face and body, as well as the new costume (cosplayers take note). It features the new tiara, armor, sword, shield and bracelets, as well as Wonder Woman's signature lasso of truth.
Wonder Woman plays an important role in Batman v Superman, as hinted at by director Zack Snyder, who called her "the gateway drug to the rest of the Justice League." If Snyder stays true to the character, it's likely that she'll act as a go-between for Batman and Superman and bring peace to the two superheroes, as well as helping them fight the overall threat Snyder has planned for the film.
A lot is riding on Wonder Woman's appearance in Batman v Superman: she'll be the first female superhero to have a big budget film. Her appearance will set the tone for future films based on female superheroes, as well as playing into studios' willingness to make more female-led action films.
When DC announced Gadot in the role, many in the fan community took issue with the relatively unknown actress becoming what many consider to be the most iconic female superhero of all time. However, after DC released images and trailers of the film, including Gadot in costume, fans seemed to change their tune, and will likely flock to theaters to see the Amazonian princess on the big screen.
The Batman v Superman Wonder Woman statue comes out on March 26, just one day after the worldwide release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and will retail for $150.
