'Broken Age' And 'Super Meat Boy' Go Free In October For PS Plus Members

October is almost here and that means another batch of free games for PlayStation Plus members. This go around, PS4 gamers will be getting two excellent games that couldn't be more different.

First up is Super Meat Boy for the PlayStation 4 — the infamous, super-difficult platformer that requires pixel-perfect precision and more than a little patience. This game's been around for a long time, but if you have yet to play it, you are in for a real treat. Whether you continue playing it beyond the first 30 minutes will be determined by your anger management skills.

Super Meat Boy definitely isn't for everybody (or even most people), so it's a good thing that the second free game for PlayStation 4 is the complete opposite of Super Meat Boy's infuriating difficulty.

A modern take on the old point-and-click adventure game genre from the masterminds at Double Fine Productions, Broken Age is about as far away from Super Meat Boy as you can get. You'll spend most of your time walking around environments, talking to various characters, finding items and solving puzzles — all presented in a gorgeous art style. The game features Double Fine's signature style of humor and a stellar voice acting cast that includes Elijah Wood and Jack Black. That alone should tell you something about the game's quality.

Both of these titles are also available on PlayStation Vita, as are two other soon-to-be-free games in the form of Kickbeat and Kung Fu Rabbit. PlayStation 3 owners can download Unmechanical Extended and Chariot free of charge.

All in all, a great selection of titles for gamers to sink their teeth into next month. Combined with Xbox Live's free games as part of its Games with Gold program, gamers who have both subscriptions will have a lot of gaming goodness coming their way. In other PS Plus news, Sony announced that the PlayStation Plus edition of Driveclub will no longer be free starting on October 6, so best download it while you can.
