Last night, during Gotham and Minority Report, Fox aired a two-part trailer for 2016's revival of The X-Files. Combined, they clocked in at a little more than a full minute of brand new X-Files footage.
What's most striking about the trailer is that it feels right. Stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have more wrinkles than we remember, but they don't appear to have missed a beat in slipping back into their most famous roles. The passion is still there in both their voices. Mulder is still searching for the truth, and regardless of their relationship status, Scully is still at his side when he needs her.
You'll also get a look at Mitch Pileggi back as Walter Skinner, who appears to still be working for the FBI. Watch closely and you'll see a quick glimpse of Joel McHale's Tad O'Malley, the TV politics pundit who becomes an unlikely source of info for Mulder.
There's also a look at some kind of war time flashback, a peek at what's happened to the old basement office, a mystery bearded man working with our two lead characters and plenty of paranoid talk about government surveillance. All that and a very familiar cigarette along with the unmistakable voice of actor William B. Davis.
Sounds like business as usual, don't you think? Take a look.
The X-Files returns to Fox on Jan. 24, 2016, and it can't get here soon enough.
