Bouts with water usually spells doom for most smartphones.
Although some of its competitors proudly tout their smartphones as being water resistant or even waterproof, Apple has never come out and said that its iPhones are either.
However, that doesn't mean its users can't say it on Apple's behalf. A new YouTube video — uploaded by user Zach Straley — shows the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s submerged in bowls of water for over an hour. To ensure the authenticity of the test, the YouTube user opens brand new boxes of the phones one by one. He then hits the power button on each device and submerges each phone into a bowl of water.
While many might have expected the iPhones to succumb within seconds, not only do their respective stopwatch functions continue to work under water, but after 30 minutes of being wet, both devices still maintained full functionality. Surprised?
After 45 minutes, they still performed perfectly. Really?
So, the YouTube user put them back underwater, letting them soak for 15 minutes longer, reaching over an hour of the devices being totally submerged. The results? Still perfect, with full functionality.
This test shows that Apple clearly had to put its iPhones through rigorous water testing, because if not completely waterproof, they're definitely water resistant. Perhaps Apple didn't make the feature public because it doesn't want customers to cash in on their warranty replacements down the line.
Whatever the case, though, if you're ever caught in the rain without an umbrella and just have to fire off an urgent text message, chances are your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6s will survive.
