World Wrestling Entertainment got the pop it was looking for because it's headed back to Brooklyn.
After holding its NXT Takeover house show, SummerSlam pay per view and Monday Night Raw on three consecutive nights at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn last month, the WWE has announced that it will return all three events in the exact order during three straight nights at the Brooklyn venue in August 2016 and August 2017.
The consecutive nights of NXT Takeover, SummerSlam and Raw will take place August 20-22 next year and August 19-21 in 2017.
New York is thrilled to have the WWE back in Brooklyn.
"We are thrilled to build on the success of the 2015 SummerSlam and welcome WWE back to Brooklyn in 2016 and 2017. Big events like SummerSlam help cement New York City's appeal as a dynamic, high-energy destination," said Mayor Bill de Blasio via a press release statement. "We're thankful for WWE's commitment to Brooklyn, and look forward to a long partnership that benefits the City."
The WWE is equally pleased.
"Barclays Center, NYC & Company and the City of New York have been incredible partners to WWE, and we are pleased that SummerSlam Week will once again take over New York City in August of 2016 and 2017," said John P. Saboor, WWE Executive Vice President, Special Events. "We look forward to building on the success of this year's event to take SummerSlam Week to even greater heights."
Last month's SummerSlam had World Heavyweight champion Seth Rollins snatch John Cena's United States title with a little help from Jon Stewart, before the raucous Brooklyn crowd, in addition to The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar delivering another epic match.
