The latest smartphones from Apple have a secret feature which the company has not touted - the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are water resistant.
Some enterprising tech buffs took the two Apple smartphones and dunked them in a bowl of water to see how they would fare.
As the video created by YouTuber Zach Straley demonstrates, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus can survive being underwater for over 60 minutes.
The video shows Straley immerse both the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in a bowl of water. He pulls them out frequently to check if they are still functional. The stopwatch on the smartphone is measuring the time as the devices are submerged. After an hour of having the iPhones underwater, Straley removes both smartphones then dries them to show how the two smartphones fared in the test.
The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus worked normally and the display on both the handsets were completely functional. There were also no traces of water spots. Moreover, the 3D Touch functionality was working perfectly. The power and home buttons also did not face any hiccups and the camera sensors did not seem to have been damaged. Even the speakers on the smartphones sounded normal.
While the video does not reveal the status of the headphone jack and Lightning port after being submerged, Straley later posted an update to Twitter noting that they were also functioning properly.
Another YouTuber TechSmartt also conducted water resistance tests on the new Apple smartphones, and his video affirms that the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus are water resistant.
For those wondering what Apple has done to impart this capability to the latest iPhones, the upgraded engineering and the additional adhesive around the device's screen edge seem to be responsible for keeping the water from entering and causing damage inside.
