Samsung officially cut the ribbon on Device Solutions America, the company's new base of operations within the United States.
The new headquarters in San Jose is situated near old one, which was constructed three decades ago. It is approximately 12 miles from Apple's base in Cupertino.
The new building and its location are said to be both tributes to Samsung's heritage within Silicon Valley and highlights the company's vision for growth and innovation. And through the innovations created within its walls, the multinational conglomerate aims to arm consumers with critical advantages.
Moreover, according to the company's press release, the new building stands as a platform on which Samsung will further its product research and development and launch a new era of technological revolutions that will solidify the company's position as a frontrunner among technology companies.
"We are transforming Samsung into a world-class example of a truly market-focused technology company," said Oh-Hyun Kwon, Samsung Electronics' Vice Chairman and current CEO. "[Samsung] is laying the groundwork for a more aggressive pace of growth over the next several decades."
Furthermore, the creation of the new headquarters, which can accommodate 2,000 people, on the 1.1-million-square-foot property will consolidate its employees, more than 700 of them, who were assigned to several subsidiaries that are spread throughout Silicon Valley.
The $300 million facility, which first broke ground in 2013, is also built to house numerous semiconductor research laboratories and the company's marketing and technical support department. It is also equipped for LED and displays development.
The new centralized structure will provide better efficiency than the dispersed facilities that were first built in 1983. With enhanced efficiency in mind, the new building is designed to feature an open air area and a garden, which are envisioned to promote more frequent interaction among employees and thus, creating a more harmonious working environment.
"Today represents a major milestone as we open our most strategically important Samsung facility in the U.S. and also our biggest investment in Silicon Valley," said Jaesoo Han, Operations President for Device Solutions America. "Samsung's goal is nothing less than to develop the best next-generation technologies for device solutions."
During Device Solutions America's formal opening, Samsung donated a total of $200,000 in support for Silicon Valley community programs. The company also raised $1 million for a STEM College Education Scholarship, which is meant for any deserving students that are in a STEM-centered program within California.
