DxO Labs has revealed its latest smartphone camera ratings and for those wondering which handset has taken home the honors here's a hint - it's a Samsung flagship.
The Galaxy S6 Edge from Samsung has emerged as the device with the best smartphone camera, edging out sibling Galaxy Note 4, the LG G4, Moto X Style, Sony Xperia Z3, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6 and the Nexus 6.
With its overall image quality score of 86, the Galaxy S6 Edge outdid the LG G4 and the Galaxy Note 4 with ease which scored 83 each. With two Samsung smartphones dominating the Top 3, the South Korean OEM would be pleased as punch.
"Achieving outstanding scores in DxOMark Mobile industry standard tests, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge becomes the new top-ranked device in our database," noted DxoMark.
For the unfamiliar, DxOMark tests both the video capture and still photography capabilities of a smartphone's camera.
In the still photography parameter, the Galaxy S6 Edge managed a score of 88 compared to the LG G4's 86 and the Galaxy Note 4's 84.
The video recording parameter saw the Samsung flagship garner 84 points whereas the Galaxy Note 4 and the LG G4 scored 83 and 79, respectively.
In the still photo metric, the Galaxy S6 Edge fared positively for good exposure, fast autofocus, great image results with only the flash on, fine detailing and reduced noise level in bright light, good White Balance and level of detail in low-light conditions.
However, the Samsung smartphone showed noticeable color fringing, as well as "Mixing flash and tungsten light results in slightly yellow/green White Balance."
In the video recording area, the Galaxy S6 Edge had a few negatives such as a "strong jello effect" which was missing in the Galaxy Note 4 and the LG G4. A wee bit of color shading was also noticeable in videos shot in low light conditions. However, this problem was also found with the LG G4.
