Though streaming services are increasingly posing a formidable threat to network and cable TV in terms of viewership and critical acclaim, HBO still dominated the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards last Sunday night.
HBO came into the Emmys with 126 nominations, the 15th time in a row it has snagged more nominations than any other network. It scored 43 Emmys overall this year with 14 of those being awarded during Sunday night's ceremony, including the awards for Outstanding Limited Series for Olive Kitteridge, Outstanding Comedy Series for Veep and Outstanding Drama Series for Game of Thrones.
So it's definitely possible that after Sunday night, you decided to sign up for HBO Now — or quickly used Emmy host Andy Samberg's log-in credentials before the account was deactivated — in order to catch all of that award-winning TV. If that's the case, you signed up at the right time because it's almost October, and there's even more programming coming to HBO Now next month.
This of course includes original HBO programming, such as the Season 2 finale of Doll & Em, the Season 2 premiere of The Leftovers and the comedy special Amy Schumer: Live at the Apollo.
But as we all know, October is also the month for horror, and there are plenty of movies arriving on HBO Now to give you enough thrills and chills to last you all month long. These include The Purge: Anarchy, The Pyramid and House on Haunted Hill. You should also catch some of the horror flicks that have terrorized people for years before their time on the streaming service ends Oct. 31. The 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake, Gothika and The Skeleton Key are among those films, and you'll be sorry if you don't catch them before they're gone.
Here are the highlights of what you can expect from HBO Now in October. Now plan your month accordingly.
