As the launch of Fallout 4 approaches, there's one thing that every would-be wasteland explorer needs to keep in mind: no, it's not your ammo count, and it's not how many Nuka-Cola bottles you have left — it's your own well-being!
Surviving the wastelands is no easy task, and it doesn't get any easier with all manner of irradiated abominations chomping at the bit to get a taste of you. Thankfully, the good people over at Vault-Tec have just released their latest batch of educational materials. This week, it's all about staying healthy and keeping track of your Endurance!
While it's true that it won't let you hit harder like Strength, or pick pockets like Perception, Endurance is just as important, if not more so! A high Endurance stat will dictate your maximum health, allowing you to sprint longer and faster, swim deeper, and boost your damage resistance. For anyone hoping to survive outside of a Vault for more than a few minutes, keeping track of your Endurance is an absolute must!
As you can see, Endurance isn't just about surviving an extra gunshot or two — it's important in helping you choose how to play the game. Stealthy players may choose to forgo Endurance in favor of another skill, but they'll be hard-pressed whenever a fight breaks out. On the other hand, a high Endurance may allow for more direct confrontations — though there's always a chance that whatever you sacrifice in return will come back to bite you.
Also, it seems as if the video may have hinted at a more in-depth survival mode, à la Fallout: New Vegas' eating and sleeping mechanics. Who knows — maybe Fallout 4 will feature a more realistic take on survival?
At this point, Fallout fans will just have to wait and see — Fallout 4 is set for release on November 15.
