Microsoft Office 2016 Has A Subscription-Free Version: Here’s How Much You’ll Need To Pay For It

For people who shun subscribing to Office 365 to get Microsoft Office 2016, the company has good news: they can buy Microsoft Office 2016 as a one-time purchase.

Microsoft announced Tuesday, Sept. 22, the costs of its one-time purchase of Office 2016 for Windows PC and Mac users.

The company said the Office Home & Student version costs $149.99; the Office Home & Business variant has a $229.99 price tag, while Office Professional costs $399.99.

Office Home and Student 2016 comes with Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote 2016. The Office Home and Business 2016 version has Word, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook 2016. Meanwhile, the Professional variant offers Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher and Access.

When Microsoft released Office 2013, the Home and Student version cost $140; the Home and Business edition was priced at $220 and Office 2013 Professional had a price tag of $400. The Home and Student 2011 version of the Office Mac was priced at $120 while the Home and Business version cost $200.

Earlier, we already delved into some of the most notable Microsoft Office 2016 features touted to users. It is worth noting that the real-time co-authoring feature is now offered in the native apps of Microsoft. Skype for Business is also added, allowing users to share their screens, send instant messages, chat and make video calls directly in the client apps.

In July, we reported the unveiling of the new Office 2016 for Mac users. However, Microsoft limited the availability of the productivity suite to Office 365 users.

"Office 2016 for Mac is now available in 139 countries and 16 languages," said Kirk Koenigsbauer, corporate vice president for Microsoft's Office Client Applications and Services group. "Based on feedback from the great Mac Office community, we've made major updates to each of the apps, and we couldn't be more pleased to deliver it first to our Office 365 customers."

Microsoft already announced last July that users who wish to avail of the standalone version could wait until September.

Currently, subscribers of Office 365 can also download the new Office 2016 apps as part of their subscriptions.
