When we're on the go, we often need to take a number of devices with us — such as laptops, smartphones, hard drives, extra batteries, headphones and so on. But what if at least a few of those things were incorporated into the bag that we use to carry it all?
An Indiegogo campaign has been started for a "smart backpack" by a company called Co.alition. The backpack not only looks great, but it also has a hard drive and power supply integrated into it.
The backpack is available in two different models: the Federal and the Colfax. The Federal offers a simple and clean design, and according to the company, it will work well with both casual and business attire. The Colfax offers a slightly more modern design, and is also larger — designed to be more of a weekender bag for longer trips away from home. Both of the backpacks come in charcoal or cement color choices.
In terms of the tech itself, there are a number of different options. The hard drive is made by Seagate and is available in 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB options. It is able to wirelessly connect to devices like computers or smartphones and has up to 10 hours of battery life.
The power supply is located on the side of the backpack and is built by Joey, which has partnered with other companies making smart backpacks as well. It allows users to simply plug in their devices via USB, which will certainly be handy for things like smartphones and tablets, but maybe not so much for computers.
As far as pricing goes, there are a number of options. For those who don't care about the tech as much as the classy design, the Federal backpack is available for $139 without tech and the Colfax is available for $159 without tech.
These prices will both go up by $20 once the early adopter special is sold out, of which there are 50 for each backpack. Options range up from there, with some including only the power source, only the hard drive, or both. The most expensive option is $1,000, which gets the user a "life-timer" card for unlimited specials on Co.alition products, as well as a backpack of their choice.
