Are The Original 'Star Wars' Movies Headed Back To Theaters?

With Star Wars: Episode VII hitting theaters later this year, love for the franchise is at an all-time high.

Judging from the trailers, Episode VII is a return to form for the series — and, as an added bonus, there's a ton of new tie-ins that are actually worth the price of admission (namely, Marvel's Star Wars comics). To put it bluntly, it's a good time to be a Star Wars fan.

Of course, none of this would be happening without the original Star Wars films — sure, the Prequels aren't great movies (or even good, for that matter), but there's no denying that the Original Trilogy is some of the best science fiction to ever hit the silver screen. As such, it only makes sense to celebrate the original movies as much as the upcoming film — and it looks like AMC is set to do just that.

Well ... almost.

In a now-deleted tweet, the AMC Theaters chain seemingly announced a Star Wars marathon ahead of Episode VII's impending debut. It's not a huge surprise, given AMC's penchants for movie marathons — so, the real question is, why even bother deleting the tweet?

Originally, the tweet was discovered by the folks over at Star Wars Junk, and while it was quickly deleted, the link it contained was not. In fact, instead of redirecting users to a simple 404 Error page, the link directs fans to a Star Wars-themed site, complete with a "Not the droids you're looking for" joke. Clearly, AMC wants this marathon to happen: AMC already had all of its bases covered, even before the tweet accidentally went live.

So, why bother deleting anything at all? It's entirely possible that AMC hasn't secured the rights to host such an event ... but considering how big the chain is and how many times it's hosted similar events, getting the rights to Star Wars doesn't seem like it'd be much trouble. In all likelihood, someone probably hit the "Send" button ahead of schedule and AMC is simply waiting to announce the marathon on its own terms. As always, we'll update the story when/if AMC decides to make a statement.

To put it simply: it looks like it's time to start planning for yet another AMC movie marathon.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Unleashed is set to debut this December.
