Ferris Bueller's Day Off is one of those movies that everyone needs to see. It doesn't have some grand message, it's not chock full of violence or sex — it's just a great movie about a kid doing what everyone in their teenage years wanted to do.
It's an endlessly enjoyable, timeless movie (except for the fashion), and it somehow manages to be funny all these years later ... but what if you could play it?
Sure, with games like Grand Theft Auto dominating the gaming market these days, gamers are used to running around giant, open worlds — but back when Ferris Bueller's Day Off hit theaters, there was nothing like the modern Grand Theft Auto games. If you wanted a game about a group of kids wandering off on their own without any sort of parental supervision, you'd need something like Nintendo's Earthbound. Sadly, such a crossover never happened ... and that's where the team over at CineFix comes in.
Chances are you're familiar with CineFix's other 8-Bit Cinema videos (we've covered quite a few), but their take on Ferris Bueller's Day Off is easily one of their best — and not just because of the adorable, Earthbound-esque sprite work ...
To be fair, Ferris Bueller's Day Off isn't an easy movie to tackle for something like this: the movie's plot is built on multiple perspectives. Then again, what the Ferris Bueller 8-Bit Cinema lacks in detail, it makes up for in style: Ferris & Co. make for absolutely adorable little sprites, and an 8-bit rendition of "Twist and Shout" is likely the best thing you'll see all day.
Of course, CineFix could have chosen to use River City Rampage as inspiration ... then again, Ferris Bueller doesn't have any street fights or bad guys who shout "Barf!" so maybe Earthbound was the right choice.
