DICE may grant 'Battlefield' early access, involve gaming community in development

Battlefield series developer, DICE, may grant early access to the upcoming Battlefield games. The developer may involve the gaming community in the development of future games to ensure a stable launch.

Development of games can take a few years and if it is released with flaws, then gamers will be deterred to buy their copy. With the increasing competition in the gaming industry, game developers want to make it right at the first time to attract a major chunk of the gaming community.

Game Informer recently spoke to Karl Magnus, general manager of DICE, who mentioned that the company has nothing to announce but is in discussions to allow early access to future Battlefield games.

"We have nothing to announce, but we are having discussions when it comes to [early access]...It comes not from a business perspective, but more from a perspective of if it would help us have a stable launch of the game," says Troedsson.

"Yes, it is something we are considering, not from a business standpoint, but from one of creating quality in our products," added Troedsson.

If DICE proceeds with involving the gaming community to develop future games, then some lucky gamers will be able to get access to upcoming gamers much before others. However, early access may be given to gamers based on certain factors such as geographical location of gamers and people who may have bought the previous version of the game.

DICE's plans to involve the gaming community may have started after the rough launch of Battlefield 4 in Oct. 2013. Gamers reported several issues that included connectivity problems, bugs, crashes and more. However, DICE was swiftly able to address the issues and released patches to fix the problems.

"Based on our pre-launch testing and beta performance, we were confident the game was ready when it was launched. Shortly after launch, however, we began hearing about problems from our player community, and the development team quickly began to address the situation," per Patrick Soderlund, executive vice president of Electronic Arts - the publisher of the game.

EA has recently announced that Battlefield Hardline will release in Oct. 2014. The company also surprised gamers with the launch of the upcoming game's beta version for PC and PS4. EA revealed that gamers can sign-up to the beta version and experience the game even before it hits the shelves.
