Livescribe and Moleskine have announced that the new Livescribe Smartpen Moleskine Edition is now up for preorder.
The partnership will allow Livescribe users to use the smartpen along with the classic Moleskine notebook, perfect for making digital and on-paper notes at the same time. All a user has to do is use the Livescribe to take notes in a standard notebook and the mobile app will do the rest of the work.
"Handwriting is not a dying art — far from it. In fact we have seen it to be entering a renaissance in recent years," said Maria Sebregondi, Moleksine's co-founder and VP of brand equity and communications, in a statement. "In expanding our partnership with Livescribe to introduce the Moleskine Edition of Livescribe 3 to creative professionals and knowledge workers everywhere, we are together providing a way to take notes, both physically and digitally, with style and grace."
The device is compatible with both iOS and Android devices and can be used on either smartphones or tablets. The notes themselves will show up in the Livescribe+ mobile app, which also allows users to sync written notes with audio that is recorded.
The idea behind the system is that, while there are plenty of advantages of digital notes for things like archiving and sharing, many still prefer to takes notes using a pen and paper. Until smartpens came around, people only had the option of either typing them into a document on their computer or taking a photo of the notes, which couldn't be easily edited.
Within the bundle now up for preorder is the Livescribe 3 smartpen that has Moleskine branding, along with Moleskine's Livescribe notebook, a one-year subscription to Evernote Premium and even a Moleskine tool belt. The bundle will cost $229.95 and will be shipped later this month.
