Originally published in 2006, the Star Wars Original Trilogy version of the classic boardgame Risk had gaming nerds facing off to conquer not only the Earth, but an entire galaxy. Instead of the standard continent shape, this special edition Risk board was printed in the shape of Lord Vader's TIE fighter.
The Hasbro game has now been upgraded and reproduced, perhaps in anticipation of the demand for a slew of merchandise coming out to herald Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The new game still features the TIE fighter-shaped board as well as the option to play on either the side of Light or Dark.
First, players may choose to side with the Emperor who will stop at nothing to defeat all the forces of the Rebel Alliance all across the Galaxy.
On the Light side of the Force are the Rebels who must find the Emperor hiding out in one of his Imperial Bases and try to eliminate him once and for all.
Or, players may also choose to faction with the Hutts and attempt to take control of at least 10 out of 13 of the resource planets, according to the game's official rules.
The republished game will have all Star Wars as well as board game geeks reliving some of the most iconic battles of the original Star Wars trilogy. The attack on the Death Star, battle on the forest moon of Endor, and duel between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader are just some of the highlighted climactic scenes that can be played out via this dice-based strategy game.
Risk: Star Wars Edition retails for around $30. For a limited time, Hasbro is offering free shipping to some areas on all Star Wars-related toys and merchandise. Check out Hasbro's official online toy shop for complete details.
