Lifetime Coverage Guarantee is the new deal that John Legere, T-mobile CEO, presented in video blog post on the company's site on Thursday.
What's the hook? Clients can pay only $20 monthly for the 16 GB iPhone 6S and, 18 months later, have the option to purchase the smartphone for another $164.
This means that the 16 GB iPhone 6S ends up costing $524, making it $125 cheaper than buying it directly from the manufacturer. T-Mobile also offers its clients the possibility to unlock the phone if they are dissatisfied with the service.
The deal announced by Legere is advantageous as long as you are ready to commit to an 18-month contract with T-Mobile. But if you are having doubts about that, better think twice before signing. The truth of the matter is that T-Mobile's Jump! On Demand program binds the client into a two-year time payment plan, with an available option to purchase the device leased after 18 months. Provided they return their old, functional phones, customers may upgrade their devices three times.
For a 16 GB iPhone 6 Plus, the tariff is $24 per month and the buyout cost raises to $192, summing to a total of $642. These prices are deemed as "introductory," a polite way of promising to see them grow.
In you find that the services from T-Mobile are lacking, they can unlock the phone so you can shift to another provider. However, this denies the special pricing. When choosing to switch networks, clients may either pay the whole price of the phone or accept to increase the increased monthly rate to T-Mobile to $27 for the iPhone 6S and $31 for the 6S Plus.
Apple has not yet detailed the prices for the iPhone 6S line, but chances are that its direct payment plan is similar to the one from T-Mobile: for a 64 GB iPhone 6S, you pay $99 on the spot and a monthly fee of $20.
For users who are satisfied with T-Mobile's services and see themselves using it for 24 consecutive months, the offer is economical. On the other hand, if you decide to part ways with the provider, you pay your phone as if you bought it directly from Apple, but you miss the AppleCare+ program and Apple's Upgrade Program as well.
