Bungie is inundated with complaints from several gamers who say they are having issues downloading Destiny 2.0, the first major update released for the popular first-person shooter since its release in September.
Tons of gamers have taken to Bungie's community forums to tell the game developer a piece of their mind about how extremely long it takes to download Destiny 2.0, a whopping 17GB update that will undoubtedly take a while to download. However, while a handful of gamers are lucky enough to have been able to download the update in a little over an hour to just a few hours, most gamers' downloads appear to have been stuck.
"Hour 6!!! Six hours still at 69 percent. This is unacceptable," exclaims one user on the Bungie forums. "Update: Seven hours and I've gone up one more percent!! Woohoo. At this rate I'll be able to play next year!!"
"I'm 12 hours in with 3 percent, every five minutes says installation stopped," complains another. "I'm aware that updates come with glitches and bugs but this one has the first place."
Another gamer channels Mirri Maz Duur and with this:
"When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, when the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves, when the traveler wakes and brings beauty back to the world, only then will you be able to play Destiny again."
So far, Bungie has only acknowledged the matter and is still looking into it.
No word yet on when gamers can expect to have their download times speed up, or what could possibly be causing the problem. Destiny is one of the most popular titles for the PlayStation and Xbox, and thousands, if not millions, of gamers are probably trying to connect to Bungie's servers all at the same time, thus contributing to the problems.
Still, Bungie isn't exactly a newbie to these kinds of situations, and it should have expected the deluge of gamers trying to access its servers at the same time.
If you're still having a hard time waiting to finish your Destiny 2.0 download, a few people who were able to download the update relatively quickly have a few tips. If possible, connect your console to your router and download over a wired connection. This way, you avoid the usual clogging you encounter on Wi-Fi when all your other gadgets are also connected. Also, download in rest mode and leave your console alone. Don't keep checking every few minutes. Go watch Netflix, feed your cat, sleep, or something.
Finally, one user suggests to download from the Apps tab instead of the Destiny app itself. Also, go to Network > DNS Settings > Advanced Settings and enter the following for the DNS:
Primary: 8.8.8.8
Secondary: 8.8.4.4
This is the free Google DNS and will hopefully speed things up a bit for you. A few gamers have tried this trick and it worked for them, so here's to hoping it works for you too.
