Sony Xperia Z5 Camera: First Video Samples Show 4K, 1080p Capabilities And HybridAF Speed

The latest Sony Xperia Z5 has an impressive camera to boast, and the first video samples now show its capabilities in 4K and 1080p, with blazing-fast focus technology.

Sony is famous for its camera modules, with various OEMs equipping their smartphones with Sony shooters, so its own Xperia Z5 couldn't slack off particularly in this department. On the contrary, the Xperia Z5 comes with high-end specs and features all around, but its camera sets it apart from the crowd.

Starting with the Xperia Z1, all Xperia Z flagships so far have packed 20.7-megapixel cameras, but the new Xperia Z5 now takes things to the next level with a more powerful 23-megapixel shooter.

The Sony Xperia Z5 can capture video up to 4K at 29 frames per second (fps), but users can also choose to shoot in 1080p at 30 fps or 60 fps. Shooting in 4K requires hefty space to store the massive files, so it may not always be the preferred choice, although the quality is superior. At the same time, it's also worth pointing out that the SteadyShot stabilization feature works only when filming in 1080p at 30 fps, not 1080p at 60 fps or 4K.

While it's still early to get a clear idea of the Xperia Z5's camera capabilities on the whole, the folks over at PhoneArena did record some preliminary video with the smartphone during the IFA 2015 trade show and seem to be quite pleased with the results.

"Beyond the specs regurgitation, we were pleasantly surprised to find that Sony's new super-fast HybridAF focusing tech lives up to the company's claims, and is particularly responsive when shooting video under continuous auto focus (CAF)," PhoneArena pointed out.

According to the publication, the Sony Xperia Z5 rear camera rocks blazing-fast HybridAF technology, quickly determining the proper focus based on where the action is taking place: the foreground or background.

PhoneArena posted two video samples to show the shooting capabilities of the Sony Xperia Z5's rear camera and so far it seems quite promising. As the publication notes, the camera software found on the IFA 2015 demo units of the smartphone is not the final version. That said, check out the videos below to get a better idea of the Xperia Z5 4K and 1080p video capture.
