Hands-On With Lenovo’s Projector-Packing Yoga Tab 3

Never let it be said that Lenovo doesn't take its share of chances. Really, that's part of the fun of being a giant, multinational electronics company — you can give things a shot.

This time out, that means adding a projector to the already quirky Yoga Tab line's bag of tricks.

It's the kind of feature that feels like a gimmick at first glance, but the more I consider it, the more I think those crazy kids might actually be onto something here. For those who've considered a project in the past in way of a more traditional TV set, perhaps there's something to the idea of just buying a tablet with the capability on-board.

After all, in the Yoga Tab, you also get video storage, streaming and a pair of on-board speakers. Then, there's the whole tablet functionality bit, which you certainly won't be getting should you plunk down the money for a devoted projector.

Of course, the built-in projector won't compete with devoted units. What the Yoga Tab has is more akin to one of those little pico projectors. The company claims it can project on surfaces up to 70 inches, and indeed, the device does the trick, but the quality and definition aren't quite there.

The system will do in a pinch, but it's not going to truly replace most people's home entertainment system any time in the near future.

Otherwise, you've got some pretty quality specs on-board, including a 2560 by 1440 10.1-inch display, a swiveling 13 megapixel camera and a massive 10,200 mAh battery, which should get you through several movies.
