Marshall Made A Smartphone That Looks Like An Amp; We Go Hands-On

As far as Marshall is concerned, one can't possibly have too much of a good thing. The company created one of the most iconic objects with its signature amplifiers and has happily been riding that aesthetic wave for decades.

In fact, the Marshall Headphones spinoff company has parlayed the design into a whole line of consumer electronics — over-ear headphones, earbuds, all manner of different sized Bluetooth speakers and now, a smartphone — a music-focused smartphone that looks like an amp.

Here's the thing though, the company keeps pulling it off. Like the line of products before it, the Marshall London handset somehow manages to incorporate the company's key design language into a quality product.

The rear of the device has a leather-style backing and rubberized corners. Somehow, the company managed to add those touches without making the device feel overly cheap or bulky.

The device features a 4.7-inch 720p display, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage and a rear-facing 8 megapixel camera. Pretty middling specs, unquestionably, but then, that's not really the point, is it?

The company would probably be the first to admit that the London isn't for everyone. It's a phone for the folks who had to be dragged kicking and screaming from their devoted music players.

The device has two headphone jacks, two front-facing speakers and ships with premium Marshall Modes headphones. There's even a devoted M button at the top that fires up the company's music app, featuring full equalization.

The London will begin shipping here in Europe on September 29th, priced at €549 ($612 USD).
