AT& announced that it will start selling the LG G Pad X 10.1 on its online store starting Sept. 4. The device will then make its way to the carrier's physical locations across the nation on Sept. 11.
In a press release, AT&T says the G Pad X 10.1 will be available in Brilliant Bronze for $17.50 a month for 20 months if purchased through its Next device installment plan. Customers can also opt to buy the tablet for $250 as part of a two-year agreement with AT&T.
The company does not mention a price for those who wish to purchase the tablet for its full price and forego the monthly device payments to AT&T, but based on the monthly installment amounts, the full price for the device is $350.
This seems to be a pretty fair price, considering the specs the mid-range tablet has to offer. AT&T has not published a full list of specs for the G Pad X 10.1, but it appears to be essentially the same device as the recently announced G Pad II 10.1 that LG announced as an exclusive for its home market in South Korea.
AT&T does say that the G Pad X 10.1 will be powered by a 2.26GHz quad-core processor, which appears to be the Snapdragon 800 chipset that is running on the G Pad II 10.1. The Snapdragon 800 is one of Qualcomm's older chipsets, but it still offers plenty of power for average users who don't require top-of-the-line technology for everyday use.
The tablet also offers built-in storage of 32GB, which is expandable to 128GB via microSD, a feature that appears to be more and more in demand as other electronics manufacturers chuck the microSD slot in favor of a sleek design. For tablets, which are used for media consumption and productivity purposes, however, extra storage space is needed to store plenty of large files.
Speaking of media consumption, the 10.1-inch display has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels, not quite 2K but is more than good enough for viewing videos on a 10.1-inch display. Considering that the device is made by LG, the world's largest manufacturer of displays, it's not difficult to believe AT&T's claims about the tablet giving off vivid colors and sharp text. It also has a 7.400mAh battery and an 8MP rear camera.
The G Pad X 10.1 runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the latest version of Google's operating system. It will have support for Dual Window split-screen mode, gesture controls for its 2K front camera, and the ability to link it with an Android phone and take calls and send texts from the tablet. Notably, it also includes the DirecTV Everywhere app, the first tangible sign of AT&T's acquisition of the pay TV provider making its way to its devices. However, the app will be useless for users except those who have or plan to have a subscription to DirecTV.
