Popular mobile dating app Tinder has launched Moments, which is a feature that allows users to share photos to their matches.
Tinder says that the shared photos will only be available to be seen by others for 24 hours, mimicking how real life experiences begin to fade from our memories after a while. This takes a page out of photo-sharing app Snapchat, but integrates it with mobile online dating.
Tinder works by providing users with potential matches according to their profiles, and then the users can swipe left or right to signify interest in the person. If both users show interest, Tinder will connect them so that the users can send messages to each other.
The Moments feature allows users to share pictures of special moments with their matches, allowing users to learn about others through a more meaningful way.
With the Moments feature, the photos shared by users to their matches can also be swiped on, with a swipe to the left to "nope" the photo and a swipe to the right to "like" it. Users can also to choose to reply with messages to the shared photos of their matches.
"You can see who is interested in you based on liking content," said Tinder CEO Sean Rad. "And people love using Tinder for the joy of swiping, so we wanted to use the same experience to help people get to know each other."
The photos shared with Moments can be shared as they are, or they can be edited using filters. They can also be drawn on, or have text added to them.
Users also have access to My Moments, where they can view and delete the photos that they have shared. Users can also see all their matches that have liked all their shared photos through Moments, both current and expired.
"With Moments, we're making it easier than ever to tell your story and share your life's moments," Tinder said on its official blog.
In addition to introducing Moments, Tinder also added a new feature in the app's latest release that allows users to be invisible from being seen by others that are looking for matches. Other users will not be able to see you, but you will still be able to communicate with your connected matches.
Today, users of Tinder register 850 million swipes per day, with the app making 10 million matches daily and 2 billion matches since its launch two years ago. It is based on Facebook's platform, with the app using its algorithm to find contacts and interests that are common between users to make suggestions on matches.
