After three intensely dramatic and gruesomely captivating seasons, Hannibal finally wrapped up its run at NBC on Saturday night. Ending in quite a cliffhanger — literally — Fuller was able to successfully pull off a great ending that could serve both as a season finale and a series finale.
Of course, this just made us hungry for more.
While we all are probably mourning the loss of of the best bromances on TV since Joey and Chandler, one YouTuber decided to create a video that pays tribute to all the frenemies Hannibal has made over the course of the three seasons.
Andrew Kuhar uploaded the video titled "Friends For Dinner," which pretty much shows that if Hannibal used the Friends open scene model, it would've been hard to resist.
Airing for 10 seasons, 10 successful seasons — Friends was and still is loved by pretty much everyone who has ever owned a TV.
How could a show be bad if it starred Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc? Well, actually, it could've been horrible since these actors were pretty much unknown when the show first kicked off, but their chemistry was something special — the kind of chemistry that is only captured onscreen every so often. Viewers everywhere were drawn to it.
To us, the Friends bond sounds like a lot like the Hannibal bromance between Mads Mikkelsen's Dr. Hannibal Lecter and Hugh Dancy's FBI profiler Will Graham.
Hannibal was probably one of the best shows many missed out on with its incredible acting performances by Mikkelsen and Dancy. Becoming the unofficial Chandler and Joey of the horror series, seeing them "break up" was almost as hard as seeing Joey unravel as Monica and Chandler prepared to move to the suburbs.
If it wasn't the storyline or acting chops that intoxicated our palate, it was the hauntingly beautiful cinematography by James Hawkinson that was a visual feast. Combined with the alluring yet creepy soundscapes by composer Brian Reitzell, "Fannibals" already knew they were in for one hell of a disturbing show after the opening credits alone.
Maybe that was the problem.
While Fuller and team were able to create a series that was a familiar dish among fans of the franchise, but added its own unique flavor, it appears like the show would've been irresistible to new guests if they just added in the Friends theme into its opening credits. How could anyone deny singing and clapping along to the Rembrandts' "I'll Be There For You" each time we hear that first note play? It seemed after getting sucked into the singalong, before you knew it, you were a few episodes in with no signs of slowing down. This is just what Hannibal needed.
Luckily, Kuhar was able to create a mashup of the Friends iconic theme song with Hannibal, reminding us of the many friendships that were formed and broken in this TV adaptation.
"As this night has already proven, it's nice to have an old friend for dinner," Hannibal says, as the iconic first few notes by the Rembrandts starts to play.
The fanmade Hannibal opening highlights each character, using multiple scenes, just like in the Friends opening credits. Of course Mikkelsen goes first, his Hannibal even giving a wink. Don't worry about the hand clap, Hannibal's got that covered, too. Dancy is up next, and the clips chosen make this character seem funny and happy — until he is seen murdering Garret Jacob Hobbs. Good times! Laurence Fishburne as Jack Crawford is seen next, and he seems to be the Ross of the group since he appears to bruise like a peach. Even though all three had been through a lot together, in some twisted way, Hannibal and Graham still managed to stay "friends."
We bet Caroline Dhavernas would be pleased to know she is the Rachel in the credits, although she isn't known for any signature look. That would go to Lara Jean Chorostecki's infamous curly locks she sported in her role as reporter Freddie Lounds.
After all the "friends" are introduced, we relive some of their best memories together. For example, Graham embracing Lecter, Lecter saluting his dinner guests with a glass of fine wine, Dr. Chilton on fire in a wheelchair. Ahh, the happy stroll down memory lane.
At least both credits have one thing in common: that iconic fountain.
