Wes Anderson is known for his distinct style of filmmaking. Hideo Kojima is known for having created one of the most cinematic (and confusing) video game franchises of all time. So what would happen if Kojima handed Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain off to Anderson?
Something akin to this parody video. It turns the tactical espionage drama of Kojima's long-running series into an indie comedy with just a few key stylistic choices.
First is the color palette. Anderson's films have a very distinct look, and this video nails it perfectly. Next is the soundtrack. Anderson loves pop music from the 60s and 70s, so you'll find that here, too.
Then there is the use of text, the cinematography and the editing. The video is the work of YouTuber Jacob Rich and his friends, and even though the production value is low (I'm pretty sure I've seen that Skull Face mask down at my local Halloween store), they definitely understand what makes a Wes Anderson film stand out.
Oh, and there are cardboard boxes too. It wouldn't be Metal Gear Solid without cardboard boxes, and here Snake uses one to stealthily make his way to a dinner date with Quiet. Hope you are ready for some "Tactical Espionage Anderson."
