Upcoming Sci-Fi Auction Puts Spock's Uniform, A Stormtrooper Helmet And More Up For Bid

The official Star Wars: The Force Awakens merchandise hits stores next week, but if you want some authentic Star Wars memorabilia, you'll have to wait a little longer — and pay a heftier price.

The U.K.- and Los Angeles-based movie and TV show memorabilia vendor Prop Store is holding a massive live Sci-Fi auction Sept. 23 at London's Odeon BFI IMAX featuring collectibles from some of the most iconic movies and TV shows of all time. The auction will include more than 450 lots of original props, costumes and production material spanning more than 150 films and TV shows.

If that sounds like a lot, it is. This auction seems to cover nearly every major sci-fi movie and TV franchise from the past 50 years.

One of the most noteworthy items to be auctioned off is an original Spock costume worn by Leonard Nimoy in 1966 for Season 2 of the Star Trek TV series, which includes the classic light blue tunic and black pants believed to appear in the episodes "The Ultimate Computer" and "The Omega Glory." The costume is expected to bring in between £50,000 and £70,000 at auction, or about $77,000 to $108,000.

There's plenty more from Star Trek at this auction where that came from. Other items up for bid include an original USS Enterprise Bridge Chair signed by George Takei, who played Hikaru Sulu on the original 1960s series (£4,000-£6,000 or $6,157-$9,235), Uhura's red Starfleet dress worn by Nichelle Nichols on the show (£20,000-£30,000 or $30,784-$46,176) and a prop communicator from the set of Star Trek: Enterprise (£1,500-£2,000 or $2,309-$3,078).

Of course, you can't have a sci-fi entertainment auction without some memorabilia from Star Wars. This auction inlcudes some panels from the Death Star featured in A New Hope (£10,000-£12,000 or $15,392-$18,470), a Stormtrooper helmet from The Empire Strikes Back (£40,000-£60,000 or $61,568-$92,352) and an Ewok head from Return of the Jedi (£1,800-£2,200 or $2,771-$3,386).

If you have some extra cash to spare, you can also bid on a plutonium fuel cell from Back to the Future (£3,000-£5,000 or $4,618-$7,696), the Hero Vid-Phon used by Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) in Blade Runner (£20,000-£30,000 or $30,784-$46,176) and the Witch King's Dagger from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (£25,000-£30,000 or $38,480-$46,176). You can check out the full auction catalog on the Prop Store website now.

If you're dying to get your hands on some of this swag, you can either attend the auction in person in London on Sept. 23 or online or by phone by following an interactive webcast. Online pre-bidding on the lots is also open now.

Or if you can't afford anything, you can always just visit the Odeon BFI IMAX in London if you're in town where more than 250 of the auction lots will be on display for two weeks starting Sept. 9, and it won't cost you anything to look. It may not be quite the same as being able to wear Superman's underwater tunic around the house, but it's better than nothing.
