Xiaomi Now Rolling Out MIUI 7 Over-The-Air Beta And Fastboot Download

A week after announcing MIUI 7, Xiaomi has now started to roll out its beta ROM which users can download and install on supported Xiaomi devices.

Officially called MIUI 7 Global beta ROM, it is available on a number of supported devices, such as the Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi 4i, Redmi 2, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note 3G and Redmi Note 4G either through OTA (over the air) or through Fastboot.

Xiaomi describes the new MIUI 7 ROM as a more refined version and has designed it with a number of exciting, new features, including a more colorful interface, better performance, optimized battery-saving capacity and a slew of personalization options.

As we previously reported, the new MIUI 7 includes four new UI themes (Rose, Pink Blush, Ocean Breeze and High Life), XXL Text, Child Mode, Baby Album, Showtime, integrated Opera Max's data saving technology and sleep detection, the latter being used in the company's Mi Band.

Users ought to make sure they they have strong Wi-Fi should they decide to download the MIUI 7 beta. They should be able to get a notification that it is available for download on their devices in the next couple of days.

For those who can't wait to get a notification, they can flash the upgrade manually through Fastboot. Users will need to download the update files after they have checked the source link that corresponds to the Xiaomi device they own. Each supported device has two links, a Fastboot and a Recovery.

There are a few things that users should take note of when they plan to update to MIUI 7.

1. If they are using MIUI global beta ROM, they need to open the app called "Updater" app on their device and then check on the update.

2. If they are using a stable ROM, they need to download first the ROM and then flash it by themselves since the OTA is not pushed for stable ROMs at this point.

3. They can also opt to download the full ROM files which they can find in the thread and then flash the ROM by themselves.

4. They need to backup all their data prior to flashing.

Users should also remember that since the MIUI 7 is in beta build, they can encounter some bugs and issues along the way. Xiaomi promises to bring an update to the beta build as often as every two weeks.

"We will push out global beta releases every two weeks on Monday before 7 p.m. Beijing time and we will continue to optimize our global beta program," says the Xiaomi Global Team.
