Music festivals are great, but if there's one thing that can ruin the enjoyment of music, it's when you lose your friends and are stuck trying to find them during a concert. Thankfully, Pepsi has you covered, and has developed a small blimp that is connected to an app, and helps lonely concertgoers connect with their friends.
The drone-blimp was created in partnership with British ad agency AMV BBDO and was deployed at the New Look Wireless Festival in London. Attendees could basically download a free smartphone app and request that the blimp help them find their friends.
The device uses a display that wraps all the way around the blimp, offering visual cues as to where the user needs to go in order to find their friends. The user can also simply follow the blimp around as it floats above the crowd.
Of course, the blimp was created as a publicity stunt, however, the idea itself is a pretty good one and could be applied to more than just music festivals. For example, it could be used to help find someone in a darkened movie theater. It could even be used to help people find their seats in a stadium or arena.
People and companies are finding an increasing number of uses for drones, such as, for example, smuggling contraband into prisons. Two men were recently arrested in Maryland for attempting to fly drugs and pornographic DVDs into a prison. When they were arrested, it was also found that they had a loaded gun, however, authorities suggest that the gun was not going to be flown into the prison because of the fact that it is too heavy for the drone.
