HP is the latest PC manufacturer using a Windows and Android approach in slumping PC sales. HP will launch the Android powered 14-inch SlateBook notebook.
It has been a struggle for HP in the mobile market, the computer maker reigned supreme for years in the PC market but has faltered with its mobile devices. The company just announced that it will begin offering its customers a 14-inch sleek and lightweight Android tablet with its just announced HP SlateBook.
"The HP SlateBook is a sleek, lightweight Android-powered notebook that gives customers access to the more than 1 million Android apps and games on Google Play in a more productive form factor. Equipped with a 14-inch Full HD touch screen, this compact, 16-mm thin notebook provides up to nine hours of battery life. An NVIDIA® Tegra 4 mobile processor, plus integrated GeForce graphics, means the notebook lets users keep up with tasks at the office, home or on the go."
HP claims that millions of its customers have been asking the company to create a notebook computer that ran the very popular Android OS. HP currently offers a number of Google's Chromebooks, which run Chrome OS, a web browser based OS designed to compete with Windows and Mac laptops.
HP may be on to something, considering tablet owners who want to be "productive" almost all use a separate keyboard accessory with their iPads or Android tablets. HP is going to try to see if there's a market for people who want Android not only driving their smartphones and tablets, but now their PCs.
The HP SlateBook features a 14-inch 1920 x 1080 Full HD touch display and full physical laptop QWERTY keyboard enhanced for use with Android.
The SlateBook runs a very fast and power efficient Nvidia Tegra 4 processor, which includes 72 graphics cores on board and is able to handle 4K video playback. It will ship with 64GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM and its battery will provide up to 9 hours of use.
The HP SlateBook weighs 3.7 pounds and is 14mm, which actually makes it thinner than Apple's MacBook Air. HP says it will begin selling the HP SlateBook in August and pricing will begin at $399.
