One of Destiny's most powerful weapons won't be getting the upgrade treatment with the release of The Taken King.
The news comes straight from Bungie's Weekly Update, which goes over many of the Destiny "year two" details discussed in a livestream that took place earlier this week. Nestled among the bullet points is one small tidbit that will likely send many longtime Destiny players first into a state of shock, followed by a blind rage that will then slowly but surely transform into a sense of overwhelming sadness, as if first learning about the passing of a longtime friend.
Says Bungie in the update:
"Did you redesign Gjallarhorn?"
"Gjallarhorn will remain a Year One Exotic at Year One levels."
Noooooooooooooooooooo. We knew decreases to Gjallarhorn's power were coming in The Taken King, but when Bungie revealed exotic blueprints earlier this week alongside the news that certain pieces of exotic weapons and armor would be getting an upgrade for the expansion, many hoped the powerhouse that is Gjallarhorn would be making the jump to year two as well.
That sadly doesn't appear to be the case. Adding insult to injury is that just a week ago Xur was selling Gjallarhorn for only the second time since Destiny's launch. The first time? The first weekend after the game came out, at a time when many players either weren't the necessary level to wield the rocket launcher or didn't have enough currency to purchase it.
Players who flocked to Xur last week to finally get their hands on Gjallarhorn for a measly 17 Strange Coins likely feel a little betrayed right now. It leaves them with only a handful of weeks to experience the weapon's overwhelming power before it is nerfed, to be followed by the weapon's slow descent into obscurity in light of new, more powerful level 40 items. We will miss you, Gjallarhorn. Rest assured, you will always be overpowered in our hearts.
