Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini image and specs leak, revealing fingerprint scanner, heart rate sensor and more

We now know what to expect from the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini in terms of specs, features and design thanks to a new report and leaked images.

Samsung shows no sign of slowing down when it comes to adding new smartphones and tablets to its mobile lineup.

The company just officially announced the Galaxy S5 Active, which will be an exclusive for AT&T, and it's holding a tablet event on June 12 where it's widely expected to announce the Galaxy Tab S series, which will boast Super AMOLED displays. Samsung is also preparing to announce the Galaxy S5 Mini, a smaller version of its flagship smartphone. New images and details of the smartphone's specs have leaked.

SamMobile received several images and the complete specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini from an anonymous tipster. The images show the Galaxy S5 Mini will look nearly identical to its older sibling and include many of its features. These include a fingerprint scanner embedded in the home button on the Galaxy S5 Mini, which will be used to unlock the smartphone and authorize PayPal purchases.

The images also show the Galaxy S5 Mini's rear case, which confirms it will also ship with a heart-rate sensor that has been situated below the smartphone's rear camera. The site claims there are rubber gaskets attached to the inside of the back cover, which implies it will also be waterproof and dust-resistant like the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S5 Active.

When it comes to hardware specs of the Galaxy S5 Mini, the site's tipster says the smartphone will use a (not so mini) 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED display and will be powered by a new 1.4-GHz Exynos 3 Quad (Exynos 3470) processor, Mali-400 MP4 GPU (graphics processing unit) and 1.5 GB of RAM. It will reportedly run Android 4.4.2 KitKat and include many of the same exclusive software features that debuted on the Galaxy S5. This means the S5 Mini will gain Ultra Power Saving Mode, which adds additional hours to the smartphone's battery by switching its display to black and white and turning off all nonessential apps and services.

In terms of storage we're looking at 16 GB of internal space and a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 128-GB microSD cards. There was no mention of the Galaxy S5 Mini's removable battery.

The specs and images appear to be the real deal, and we'll of course keep you posted on any additional details.
