Apple is rebranding its iTunes Festival as the Apple Music Festival, set to take place over 10 nights in London in September.
The iTunes Festival had its very first edition back in 2007 and has become a high-profile annual event over the years, seeing over 550 artists and more than half a million fans attending the festival, in addition to tens of millions of fans watching the event online and on-demand. Previous editions of the festival brought big-name artists such as Sir Paul McCartney, Muse, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon, Elton John, Adele, Coldplay, Beck, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Katy Perry and more.
The company has been holding its annual music festival in London for eight years and it's now changing its name from the iTunes Festival to the Apple Music Festival to celebrate the recent launch of the Apple Music service.
The Apple Music Festival will feature a slew of popular artists as expected, and is set to take place between Sept. 19 and Sept. 28 at London's historic Roundhouse, which has serves as the iTunes Festival venue for several years now. Apple has officially announced an initial set list with Florence + The Machine, Pharrell Williams, One Direction and Disclosure among the headliners.
"We wanted to do something really special for music fans this year," touts Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. "The Apple Music Festival is a greatest hits set of ten unbelievable nights featuring some of the best performers on the planet appearing live and interacting directly with their fans on Connect and Beats 1."
UK residents can apply for a chance to win tickets to the festival on Apple Music or through partners such as the London Evening Standard. Fans who cannot attend the event will be able to watch a live broadcast on Beats 1, the live radio station part of the Apple Music service. Customers will be able to watch the Apple music Festival via Apple Music on iTunes on the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, PC, or Apple TV.
Apple further touts it will broadcast "backstage news and footage straight from the artists" via its Apple Music Connect, which also allows artists to release a song to fans straight from their iPhone.
The company has yet to announce a full set list of artists set to perform at the Apple Music Festival in September, but should offer additional information shortly. In the meantime, learn more about tickets, updates and more from the Apple Music Festival website.
