LG launched its new tablet and successor to last year's G Pad 8.0, properly named the G Pad 2 8.0, to its South Korean market.
While its predecessor came in 7-, 8-, and 10.1-inch options, the LG G Pad 2 is only available in an 8-inch size, and has close to the same specs of the model before it with some slight tweaks.
The midrange tablet features 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop (although Andorid 5.1 Lollipop is currently available), and is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5 GB RAM and 4,200 mAh battery.
In comparison, the LG G Pad 8.0 comes with Qualcomm's APQ8026 1.2 GHz Quad-core processor, 1 GB RAM, and 16 GB built-in storage (with a microSD memory slot for up to 32 GB), and the same 4,200 mAh battery.
When it comes to memory, the G Pad 2 offers more, with 32 GB built-in storage, a microSD card slot for up to 128 GB of storage, and a full-size USB 2.0 port, which is uncommon for Android-run tablets. Consumers could use this feature to connect a keyboard, or even a gaming controller. The device also has a 2-megapixel front and 5-megapixel rear-facing camera.
The 8-inch G Pad 2 tablet has a curvier design, comes with a 3.5-mm stylus and has Microsoft Office apps preinstalled, including MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint to increase work productivity while on the go.
Information about the midrange tablet was first leaked last month by Leaksfly, which speculated it will be released in October.
The G Pad 2 is currently featured on LG's Korean website in the 8-inch option, although the other-sized options may hit the market as well. The tablet has not been announced internationally, but the South Korean company could make the announcement during September's IFA tech show. The price of the G Pad 2 8.0 is still unknown.
