Apple has yet to announce the next generation of iPhones, which is rumored to take place at an event in September. Interestingly, the excitement seems to be greatest in Germany, following a report saying that a local carrier is currently taking reservations for the new iPhones.
Carrier Deutsche Telekom is taking reservations through an online reservation system by which people can place a sort of pre-order on the next-gen iPhones. While the German carrier does not mention the names iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus directly on the site, it's hard not to assume they are indeed the upcoming devices from Apple, since the timing and the atmosphere seem perfect.
Back in 2011, Deutsche Telekom launched a similar online reservation system when the iPhone 4S was about to hit store shelves. It's therefore not entirely surprising that the carrier is launching the same online reservation system for the upcoming iPhone devices.
According to the carrier, potential buyers who sign up for their online reservation system will be eligible to get a preferred delivery. The type of reservation, described as "non-binding," allows current and new customers to get their reservation confirmation ticket either through email or SMS after they have provided their contact details.
When the iPhones become ready for delivery, all these customers need to do is wait until the carrier delivers the devices to their doorstep. In other words, they don't have to wait until the iPhones arrive at the stores and wait in line to get their hands on the new iPhones.
The system follows a first-come, first-served policy which is pretty much what other stores use when taking customer reservations.
A portion of the reservation policy was translated into English (via Google Translate) and has been revealed by Mac Rumors. It reads: "By registering the reservation service, you have bookmarked for a preferred delivery of pending smartphone innovations. The sooner you reserve and redeem your reservation, the sooner you can expect a delivery. You get your device conveniently delivered to your door."
Deutsche Telekom owns U.S. carrier T-Mobile, and the reservation page shows the familiar pink hues and the logo of a single letter T. The online reservation system, however, seems to be valid only in Germany.
