Photos from the set of Captain America: Civil War have leaked – and given us our first glimpse of Marvel's rebooted Black Panther.
Chadwick Boseman, making his Marvel Universe debut, is cast as T'Challa/Black Panther, is best known for his biopic portrayals of Jackie Robinson in 42 and James Brown in Get on Up. Though this will be Boseman's introductory Marvel appearance, it's only the first of many; Boseman is set to star in his own Black Panther vehicle in 2017. While it was rumored that Selma director Ava DuVeray would helm the film, she declined the offer, citing a difference in artistic vision. The Black Panther film will be the first to feature a black superhero as its first starring role.
The cast includes Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlett Johanssen (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Daniel Bruhle (Helmut Zeno) and Paul Bettany (Vision). Martin Freeman has also recently been cast in an unspecified role.
Here is the synopsis, according to a press release issued by Marvel:
"Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain."
Captain America: Civil War will be in theaters May 6, 2016.
