For gamers still playing Pro Evolution Soccer 2014, time is running out.
With Konami putting its full focus on Pro Evolution Soccer 2016, which hits stores September 15, the Japanese company has announced that it will end online support for the 2014 title on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on November 17 — just over two years after its September 2013 release.
The announcement comes exactly a week after the official PES 2016 gameplay trailer was released. The termination of PES 2014 from its servers this November will allow Konami to free up enough room for last year's PES 2015 and PES 2016 on PS4 and Xbox One.
Gamers who actively play PES 2014 probably can't help but feel a bit shafted, considering the title's initial September 2013 release and November 2015 shutdown of its servers came just over two years apart.
The 2014 title headlines a group of games whose services will be removed over the next two months. In addition, Konami will reportedly withdraw 22 of its older iOS titles from Apple's App Store on September 19.
On the bright side, the official trailer for PES 2016 shows crisp graphics and more authentic gameplay, true to actual real-life soccer. Before the game is released on PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC next month, fans can get an early preview with the demo set to kick off Thursday, August 13.
The official release date of September 15 is strategically one week before FIFA 16's release on September 22.
Once removed from servers, gamers can keep playing PES 2014, but won't be able to purchase or re-download.
