Get ready for an explosion of NFL highlights and other content to bombard your Twitter timeline this season and beyond.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the NFL has signed a multi-year extension with Twitter to post more game highlights and other video content on the social network, beginning this season. It's great timing, considering this season is all about working its way up to Super Bowl 50 in February.
In addition to in-game highlights from the preseason through Super Bowl 50, more analysis, breaking news, game recaps and even behind-the-scenes videos will reportedly be part of the other content that users will be able to be tweet more of. The social network will also collaborate with the league to automatically drop video clips in the feeds of fans, who show a fondness for football-related content.
"There is a massive amount of NFL-related conversation our fans, teams and players are having on the platform," Vishal Shah, the NFL's vice president of media strategy and business development, told The Hollywood Reporter. "Providing the Twitter audience with engaging and authentic NFL content will magnify their social experience throughout the year."
Added Twitter content partnerships boss Glenn Brown: "Twitters users and brands cannot get enough NFL video and news, and they'll now get more of it, and faster, than ever before. Over the past two years, NFL content on Twitter has seen best-in-class user engagement rates, and the expanded partnership will bolster the fan experience on the platform."
Week 1 of the NFL preseason officially kicks off this Thursday (August 13) with a total of 12 teams in action. The regular season kicks off on September 10 with the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots—minus a suspended Tom Brady—hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA.
