After the big leak that Apple was on the verge of acquiring Beats for $3.2 billion, some might wonder why nothing has happened, what's the hold up and who's about to get fired. Well, no one is about to get fired, but there's a chance the deal might not go through.
One of the main reasons why Apple could be on the fence about purchasing Beats, may have a lot to do with the drunken video posted online, which includes Dr. Dre bragging about becoming Hip Hops first billionaire. No company likes it when a deal is made public before final talks have been concluded, so what Dr. Dre did could tarnish the whole thing.
Then again, we need to bear in mind that not once did Dr. Dre mention Apple in his drunken outburst. He didn't even state that Beats was on the threshold of being acquired by another company, so all reports claiming otherwise are false.
Another reason for the delay could be due to the fact that $3.2 billion would be the largest sum Apple would pay to acquire a company.
In Apple's history, the company has never acquired another company for a billion dollars, or nowhere close to that number, so it is clear that it may be evaluating its options. Beats acquisition would be the first for Tim Cook as CEO, and he would be the first CEO of Apple to acquire a company for this much money.
The video caused Apple to go crazy?
This is quite possible. If you've seen the video, it is quite vulgar and boastful, and it could force Apple to think twice before writing the final markings on the wall. The language and actions in the video are not in line with how Apple operates.
What about Dr. Dre, what would he do at Apple?
We've heard on a number of occasions that Dr. Dre could become an Apple executive should this deal materialize. However, what would be his role as an Apple executive? Chances are Tim Cook, and friends are asking the same question. Furthermore, does Apple really want a person with entourage acting in such a manner as an executive? We don't think so. Still, the company truly needs a person who can think differently.
Right now we can't say if this rumored deal will go down or not. It will depend on whether or not Apple view Beats as a must have for its business to compete more effectively. If not, then Dr. Dre and friends would wish they knew how to keep their mouths shut.
