Director Hajime Tabata of Final Fantasy XV believes that the technology behind the aerial controls in Just Cause 3 is truly unique and that its seamless nature is something rarely seen in other game titles.
In a recent interview with Famitsu, Tabata confirmed that they are in talks with Avalanche Studios, the developers of Just Cause 3, on a future technical collaboration for the upcoming Final Fantasy XV. Since the conversations have just started, Tabata somehow warned fans that he cannot guarantee any results just yet. What he can reveal is how Square Enix is particularly interested in the unique verticality found in Just Cause 3.
"We don't have any knowhow when it comes to that," said Tabata. "This is something that barely started out, but it's something of which both the Final Fantasy XV team and Avalanche Studio team have very high expectations."
Tabata is said to be pitching Final Fantasy XV as having a totally different perspective from Final Fantasy XIII-2 by making the game more story-driven as opposed to focusing more on the game's characters. He made some replacements for Stella and the Luminous Engine while applying some changes and enhancements on stuff such as the game's tone, among others.
"When I saw what the guys at Avalanche Studios were doing with Just Cause 3, what really impressed me was how they have that vertical element to their games and the technology they use to achieve that kind of thing," stated Tabata.
Tabata further explained the type of aerial control technologies that he wants to implement into Final Fantasy XV.
"My personal goal is to implement airships that can fly around in full-scale," said Tabata. "I'm not certain whether we'll be able to make it on time for the retail release, but I think we should do even if it means releasing it after as a download. I'd like to have the challenge of being able to fly around the world. I would like to experience that, and I'm sure the fans would also like to experience that, too."
Final Fantasy XV will be available to current-generation gaming consoles Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and is rumored to release in 2016.
