Konami, the publisher of the upcoming action adventure video game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, has announced that the PC version of the game will be released along with the console versions on Sept. 1. However, gamers will have to wait a bit longer to play the multiplayer mode dubbed Metal Gear Online.
The PC version of the game was originally scheduled for a Sep. 15 launch, but Konami has listened to gamers and will release it in line with the console version.
"We've been able to successfully operate our production schedule and change the release date from September 15th, to day-and-date with our console release on September 1st!" wrote Robert Peeler, online community manager for the Metal Gear franchise, on a Steam blog. "We've been able to do this because of your support of the PC version and for helping us with feedback all along the way."
Tomotada Tashiro, president of Konami Digital Entertainment B.V., also wrote in a blog post that the company was in doubt if the PC version of the game could be launched alongside the console version. However, the team worked diligently to release the PC version early.
PC gamers will be definitely happy about the release of the game on Sep. 1. However, Konami also announced that Metal Gear Online will be launched at a later date.
"Console versions of Metal Gear Online will go live on October 6th, with the PC version set to release in January 2016," stated Konami.
The delay of Metal Gear Online is not the first one in the gaming industry. The Grant Theft Auto V multiplayer mode was launched two months following the release of the game on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Neither the game developer Kojima Productions nor Konami has released an official statement regarding the delay. However, Konami has hinted that resources were reshuffled to prepone the release of the PC version, which may have affected the release of the multiplayer mode.
