PlayStation 4 Exclusive Title 'Driveclub' Surpassed 2 Million Units Sold

Well, would you look at that. The PlayStation 4 exclusive title, Driveclub, performed a lot better than expected at retail before the game was made available for free on the PlayStation Network.

Game director Paul Rustchynsky revealed that the game managed to surpass two million units sold at retail, a huge number considering that many gamers knew beforehand that it would have been made available as a free download.

This achievement, according to Rustchynsky, happened eight months after the game launched, before it was available for free. Despite the good deal of bad press that surrounded the game due to quality issues at launch, it still performed well.

"Can't provide any more details other than this figure was reached prior to the release of the PS+ Edition," according to Paul Rustchynsky on Twitter.

With such an enormous success, it is clear to us that Evolution Studios will be working on a sequel. How long this might take is up in the air right now, because we suspect the studio would be working on other titles before even thinking about touching on a Driveclub 2 title anytime soon.

Would fans love to see another?

Hard to say, since two million copies sold doesn't necessarily mean the game was loved among fans. Some hated it, but we are certain that if Evolution Studios created a second and it turns out to be a hit, people will flock to it even more.

The question is, though, will Sony go the route of free-to-play with the second game early in its life or choose to ride it out at retail for awhile to gain maximum returns on its investment?

Evolution Studios recently released a new expansion for the game, called the Horsepower Expansion. What it brings to the table is basically more cars and much of nothing else.

If you're out hoping to gain some new rides for Driveclub, then this is the expansion to get. We think these should have been made available as a free download, but the game itself is already free.
