EA Games Will Release Three New Franchises In 2016

Video game developer and distributor EA Games promises to release three brand-new franchises soon.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson announced that the three new original games are in development, during an earnings call on Wednesday, and that they will be released before the end of April 2016.

"We have more new experiences coming throughout the year," Wilson said. "Our live services will continue to evolve with new content. We'll have some great new mobile games, and we're excited to have three new and original IP titles launching in Q4."

Wilson didn't reveal any details about the new video games – not even their titles – but he did say a new first-person shooter Battlefield game was in the works.

"Looking further ahead, we're preparing more new games for our players," Wilson continued. "The reaction to a first look at Mass Effect: Andromeda at E3 was incredibly positive. We have a new Battlefield experience coming in Q3 FY 2017 and another new Star Wars project being led by the dynamic creative team of Jade Raymond and Amy Hennig. These are just a few of the new experiences in development across our studios today."

While another Battlefield is in the works and a new Star Wars game will be released in 2017, it's likely that one of the new franchises will be from the platformer Unravel, which was revealed at E3 2015 in June.

EA showcased 15 new games at E3 2015 — including Star Wars: Battlefront, after locking in its partnership with Disney and Lucasfilms. It also announced a new Star Wars mobile game, with plans to continue releasing more mobile game titles.

"The opportunities in mobile as well as new service and delivery models are opening up more ways to bring players into our games than ever before," Wilson said.

EA Games is set to release the games Mirror's Edge: Catalyst as well as Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 next year, but it's unlikely that Wilson was referring to these titles as they aren't brand-new franchises.
