New Apple TV Coming In September: Report

A report by BuzzFeed News is claiming a new Apple TV is on its way and will be officially announced by the company in September.

BuzzFeed released a report back in March that Apple was developing a new Apple TV and was looking to unveil it at the annual WWDC in June. However, Apple ditched the plan in May, choosing to focus instead on the iOS and Apple Music.

However, with the company's annual fall event nearing, Apple is once again preparing the successor to the Apple TV.

According to sources that are familiar with the matter, the new Apple TV will be unveiled in September at the same event where the company usually unveils new models of its iPhone.

Also according to BuzzFeed's sources, the device will still remain similar to the one that was referred to in the March report, as a significant upgrade to Apple TV which was originally launched back in 2012.

The device that will be unveiled in September will be "more polished" compared to the device that was being planned to be announced in June due to some more tweaks made to the final product since then.

Expectations for the new Apple TV include support for Apple's smart assistant Siri and that it will be powered by Apple's A8 chip. It is also expected that the new Apple TV will have a much higher memory capacity compared to the 8GB capacity of the current Apple TV.

Additional improvements that the new Apple TV is expected to have over the current Apple TV include a redesigned chassis and interior and a new kind of remote with a touchpad input system.

The new Apple TV will be launching alongside a long-awaited App Store for the platform, and the software development kit that is needed by developers to create and release apps for Apple TV.

Apple is hoping that the new Apple TV, which is three years in the making, will lead to significant sales over the annual holiday shopping frenzy , and will lead to the creation of the subscription Internet TV service that Apple has been attempting to launch for years now. However, while this service is certainly among Apple's plans, it will not be unveiled alongside the upcoming new Apple TV.

Apple declined to issue a comment on the report when contacted by BuzzFeed.
