Yesterday Microsoft finally launched its shiny new Windows 10. If you are already a proud owner of Minecraft (a staggering 20.3 million people currently are), then Microsoft has a nice gift in store for you right now: You will get the Windows 10 Edition Beta of Minecraft for free.
The game's developer Mojang had announced this already at Minecon earlier this year and is now making good on its promise, writing about the specifics on the Mojang blog a day before the Windows 10 launch.
So what's the deal, how do you go about redeeming this offer?
First of all, you need to already possess the original PC or Mac version of Minecraft, and all you have to do is log in to your Mojang account. You will see a "redeem" button. Please click that. You will then be prompted to sign in to your Microsoft account and then follow the simple instructions. And just like that you will be the owner of the new Windows 10 Edition beta of Minecraft all for the sweet price of $0.00.
If you do not actually own Minecraft yet (how did that even happen?), you will not get the new Windows 10 Edition beta version of Minecraft for free, not surprisingly, but at least you can get it for a reasonable $9.99 in the Windows Store, provided of course that you are running Windows 10 on your PC or Mac. This is still a nice discount, as the regular retail price for Minecraft is set at $26.95.
And game developer Mojang has another perk for us: "Just like the other versions of Minecraft, all future updates will be free. We spoil you. We really do." Those are the words of chief word officer Owen Hill on the Mojang blog. Thanks Mojang, much appreciated!
Whichever route you take: do enjoy the new gaming experience and discover what improvements or changes are there and how the Minecraft beta for Windows 10 feels. Hopefully it will be an even better gaming experience for all of us.
