It's no secret that the WWE is a fan of The Terminator. Triple H did make his way to the ring dressed as one of Cyberdyne's unstoppable killing machines at last year's WrestleMania, after all. However, what appeared to be a one-off marketing deal goes a bit deeper... and it just got so much better.
These days, every WWE game features some sort of pre-order bonus. It's inevitable: sometimes it'll be a character, other times it'll be an exclusive mode or move set — one way or the other, the WWE and 2K always make sure that there's some reason for fans to put their money down early.
So, what do WWE's pre-order bonuses have to do with The Terminator? Well, in what appears to be one of the most bizarre (yet somehow oddly appropriate) crossovers in the history of professional wrestling, two different portrayals of Arnold Schwarzenegger's version of the T-800 series Terminator will be playable characters for all those who pre-order WWE 2K16.
It doesn't make a bit of sense — and yet, it sounds so amazing.
Sadly, aside from the surprisingly accurate recreation of the famous Terminator 2 sequence, fans still know next to nothing about how the T-800 will actually play. WWE confirmed that both the original and Terminator 2 versions of the character will be playable in the game, but nothing on how the character will play has been revealed.
And, while some may bemoan the idea of yet another pre-order, at least WWE 2K16's bonuses aren't retailer-specific: as long as you buy your copy from a major retailer (online or otherwise), you'll be able to play as Arnold when the game launches.
Judging from the timing, it's safe to say that this deal has been in the works for a long time... though it may help fans forget that Hulk Hogan won't be in the game this year, as the Hulkster was fired last week over a long list of previously recorded racist remarks.
Then again, a Terminator vs. Hulk Hogan match at WrestleMania could have been the greatest thing ever, even if it was virtual — but it looks like it just wasn't meant to be.
WWE 2K16 is set for release on October 27.
