Adidas knows all too well that even the most-loved kicks can get a little boring over time, so it is introducing a new twist into the shoe industry with the announcement of a new line of customizable shoes that can feature any Instagram photo.
Adidas was mum on the many details of the upcoming app, but a few details are floating around the rumor mill.
Adidas will make this possible through a Photo Print app to be launched in August and available on both Android and iPhone devices. Customers will have to buy a pair of the ZX Flux sneakers though, wherein the chosen Instagram photo will be printed on.
ZX Flux is part of the customizable miAdidas brand that makes room for customers to design their shoes. A regular ZX Flux sneaker, however, is said to be around $85 or $90, so price estimate for the customizable one is estimated to be below $200 a pair.
Further research discloses Adidas neither tipped off the duration of the promotion or the shoes' price point or information how the app exactly works, but that the information will be revealed sometime before its official launch three months from now. To keep everyone in the loop regarding Adidas' new kicks and app, the company instead released Tuesday a 15-second teaser of the upcoming Adidas app on Instagram. Again, not much has been revealed of the incoming app for the shoes on the video, save for a tidbit on history of the ZX Flux trainers and its various color choices.
Regardless, the Instagram prints on Adidas' new kicks will likely be a hit, according to some observers.
"Brands have given customers the ability to customize and personalize their shoes for more than a decade, but this is absolutely game changing. Never has anyone been able to personalize a shoe to this level," says Matt Halfhill, founder and CEO of Nice Kicks, a blog about sneakers.
"The technology for this essentially makes adidas product the canvas for personalization and branding the way a blank T-shirt is for wearables. Endless possibilities with this technology," writes Halfhill on his blog.
Research also suggests that the new Adidas app for the ZX Flux kicks will very likely produce many fantastic or unique shoe designs as soon as, well, it kicks off, so might as well say hello soon to more selfies, food photos and whatnot.
