Microsoft shocked gamers everywhere (and pissed off more than a few) when it was announced that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be an Xbox One "timed exclusive." We've known that the game would only be on Xbox platforms this holiday season, but now we know when exactly gamers everywhere will be able to play.
The good news is players planning on playing Lara Croft's next adventure on PC won't have to wait too long. Developer Crystal Dynamics has announced the game will be coming to PC in early 2016, after the release of the game on Xbox One and Xbox 360 in November 2015. No exact date for the PC release has been given.
The bad news? Those who want to play Rise of the Tomb Raider on PlayStation 4 will have to wait much longer: a year, to be exact. Crystal Dynamics says the game will have Xbox exclusivity for a year, meaning PS4 gamers won't likely be playing until Nov. 2016.
It's a tough pill to swallow for Tomb Raider fans who aren't part of the Xbox nation, but it's a trend that has become all too common as of late. As Microsoft and Sony look for additional ways to 1-up each other, game and DLC timed exclusivity has begun to play a much bigger role. Destiny on PS4 features a number of timed exclusive missions and weapons that will be arriving for Xbox Destiny players a year later, with more timed exclusive content on the way. Sony recently announced the upcoming Final Fantasy VII remake would also be releasing first on PS4. You can read more about the various exclusives on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 here.
In other Rise of the Tomb Raider news, the game's director recently confirmed the game will be running at 1080p on Xbox One.
Rise of the Tomb Raider releases on Xbox One and Xbox 360 on Nov. 10, 2015.
