Want to be the next Alison Bechdel? Here's your chance: an online course will teach you how to create your own graphic memoir — for only $12.99.
Titled "The Art of Telling Your Personal Story in Comics," the class is an online video series created by Eisner-nominated graphic memoirist Tom Hart. An online extension of The Sequential Artists Workshop (SAW), located in Gainesville, Florida, the course is divided into eight separate classes that take students through the miasmic haze of brainstorming and to the more concrete elements of storytelling — including organizational structure, visual style decision-making and visual language exploration.
According to their website, SAW has been around since January 2012, with physical facilities that include "a fully functioning two-leveled studio; a stocked library of inspiration, reference and history; a risograph printing station; and first-rate instructors full of knowledge, talent, experience and generosity of spirit."
Famous faculty that have taught at SAW include Leela Corman (Unterzakhn), Kurt Wolfgang (Where Hats Go), and others.
Hart's memoir Rosalie Lightning, which details the death of his daughter and the eventual aftermath, will be published by St. Martin's Press in January 2016.
