Steve Kerr had Andre Iguodala coming off the bench for the first time in his career this season.
The first-year Golden State Warriors coach only returned the veteran swingman as a starter, when the team found themselves down 2-1 against LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. The decision wound up being a turning point for the Warriors, who won the series in six games with Iguodala averaging 16.3 points, four assists and 5.8 rebounds per game to be crowned Finals MVP.
That said, Kerr says it's right back to the bench for Iguodala next season.
"I saw him at the postgame party in Cleveland, went up and said, 'Congrats, MVP, you were incredible, what a job. And you're going back to the bench next year,'" Kerr told the San Jose Mercury News on Thursday, July 16. "And he laughed. And I laughed. Obviously kind of a joke."
Well, Iguodala took that joke and ran with it, using it to set up a cruel prank against Warriors fans via Twitter later that same day. The 11-year vet asked to be traded, pasting a link of the Mercury News piece.
His followers instantly went crazy over the message, re-tweeting it nearly 11,000 times with over 7,300 people favoriting it — before Iguodala came clean a minute later, saying he was just joking.
Good one, Andre.
